Sonnet 66

Tired with all these, for restful death I cry,

As to behold desert a beggar born;

And needy nothing trimmed in jollity,

And purest faith unhappily forsworn,

And gilded hornor shamefully misplaced,

And maiden virtue rudely strumpeted,

And right perfection wrongly disgraced,

And strength by limping sway disabled,

And art made tongue-tied by authority,

And folly, doctor-like, controlling skill,

And simple truth miscalled simplicity,

And captive good attending captain ill;

Tired with all these, from these would I be gone,

Save that, to die, I leave my love alone.

I cry for death,being tired of beholding,下接十一个宾语,分别为:desert,nothing,faith,honour,virtue,perfection,strength,art ,folly,truth,good.
cry:appeal loudly.
2、As:Such as,for example.desert:a deserving person;这里莎士比亚用了一系列表示品质的抽象名词,指具有这种品质的人,这在修辞上叫“换喻”(metonymy).a beggar born:born a beggar,注定为卑下者(出身贫贱)。
3、needy nothing:a nonentity who lacks all merit,草包。trimmed in jollity:dressed up in finery.
4、unhappily:(1)unfortunately;(2)mischievously.forworn:forsaken,abandoned.
misplaced:give to wrong persons(i.e. unworthy people).
6、maiden(adj.):pure.virtue:women of virtue;换喻,参见第2行注。strumpedted:turned into a prostitute.
7、right:true,real.
9、art:learning.
10、folly,dovtor-like:参见荷兰学者伊拉斯默斯(Desiderius Erasmus,1469-1536)所著《愚蠢颂》,(The Praise of Folly,1509),文中“愚蠢”(folly)被拟人化为教士,穿着学究的长袍说教。 skill:(1)good judgement(i.e. those who have good judgement);(2)ability(i.e. those who are able).
11、miscalled:slandered as.simplicity:silliness,folly.
12、captive:the helpless.good:who are good.captain:(1)army officer;(2)chief.ill:who are vicious.
14、Save:Except. to die:if I should die.leave:would leave.my love:my beloved.
